(KNOX/Valley News Live) –North Dakota officials are urging travelers going in and around Medora to plan ahead and expect heavy traffic, as the community hosts America’s 250th birthday celebration. The celebration starts today and goes through July 5.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation and North Dakota Highway Patrol will use a temporary traffic plan throughout the week to keep vehicles moving and maintain access for emergency responders.
Motorists heading into Medora are being encouraged to use a free parking and shuttle service from Exit 36, located near Fryburg on Interstate 94.
Drivers can also enter Medora at Exit 24. Exit 27 will be reserved for shuttle services and emergency vehicles entering the community. Additional free shuttle routes will operate within Medora to help visitors reach different event sites.
Significant travel impacts are expected Wednesday, July 1, when President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Medora. Trump will attend the dedication ceremony to the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library.
Drivers should be prepared for additional traffic restrictions, temporary road closures and travel delays tied to the visit. Officials say more information will be released as details are finalized.
Travelers are asked to allow extra time, watch for pedestrians and expect slow-moving or stopped traffic.
Officials also remind drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, watch for pedestrians and bicycles, use caution entering and exiting parking areas, follow instructions from law enforcement and traffic control personnel, and be patient on the roads.
Traffic information and updates will be posted at dot.nd.gov/ND250TravelMedora.
