(KNOX) – A Fargo man facing domestic violence charges made his initial court appearance on Monday in Cass County Court.

Urias Giadyu faces one count of felony domestic violence causing serious bodily injury and one count of misdemeanor domestic violence causing bodily injury. Police say he punched and choked a woman during a dispute that began in a moving vehicle and continued in a church parking lot. Both charges stem from an incident on June 13.
Giadyu pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor count in Cass County District Court. The court also issued an order prohibiting Giadyu from contacting the victim.
According to court records, officers responded to the parking lot of Bethel Church on 30th Ave. S., after someone reported a physical domestic disturbance. The woman told officers a verbal argument turned physical while the two were driving near 32nd Ave. S. She said Giadyu punched her in the face twice before pulling into the church parking lot, where he choked her to the point she could not breathe, struck her again, and pushed her out of the vehicle.
