(KNOX) – A man acquitted of murder in Grand Forks County two years ago will remain at the North Dakota State Hospital.

Troy Larson was found not guilty of murder in the killing a family friend due to lack of criminal responsibility, which is North Dakota’s legal equivalent of being found not guilty due to a mental issue.

Larson was charged with shooting and killing 64-year-old Jamey Holweger at Larson’s home in Larimore in March of 2024.  The court ruling was issued in 2025, and Larson was committed to the state hospital in Jamestown for life.  Monday’s review was part of an annual review.
