(KNOX) – Third-ranked Cherry scored 49 second-half points to fight off a challenge from Sacred Heart, earning a 78-71 win.

The Eagles led 37-29 at the break, but could not hold off the duo of Isaiah Asuma and Noah Asuma, who had 32 and 22, respectively.

Sacred Heart had four scorers in double figures, led by Caleb Ihry’s 19.  Nathan Kaiser added 14, Jacob Ortiz tossed in 12, and Nick Satterlund scored 11.

“We had too many missed free throws (9-22) and turnovers to beat the #3 ranked team in the state on the road, ” Eagle’s head coach Destry Sterkel said after the game.  “However, we positioned ourselves to have a chance to win the game and came up short. We took a big step forward with our energy, effort and enthusiasm tonight.”

Sacred Heart plays Mountain Iron-Buhl Saturday.
