(KNOX) – The North Dakota Special Secretary of State’s Office said that a special election for the District 42 North Dakota House of Representatives seat in Grand Forks will not be held.
A petition submitted by members of the District 42 Republican Party calling for the election lacks enough valid signatures to be approved according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
The petition needed 656 valid signatures for a special election for the seat vacated by former Rep. Emily O’Brien, who left the seat in August to take a state job.
Of the 726 signatures submitted, 612 were valid.
The seat is held by Dustin McNally appointed in September.
