(KNOX) – According to unofficial results voters in Walsh County have rejected a new jail that was to be built in Grafton.
Voter were split on the two questions on the ballot, both needed to pass.
The vote for a 3/4 of a 1% sales tax to help fund construction got 1,073 yes and 985 no unofficial votes.
The second question which asked voters for up to 20 additional mills to help fund a potential new jail received 989 yes and 1,067 no votes.
The new jail would have cost $42 Million.
Officials said a new jail would have been cheaper and would have cost less than constantly repairing the current jail that is 50-years-old.
