(KNOX) – The state of North Dakota said that if a new a Walsh County isn’t built, they will close the current one.

Voters head to the polls on Tuesday to vote on $43 million for a new jail that would be located in Grafton.

Sewer backups in cells, corroded pipes, no air conditioning and mold in the basement are some of the troubles with the 5 decade old building.

The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has been decreasing the number of beds at the jail over the years because of the conditions.
