(KNOX) -The Grand Forks Committee of the Whole Monday evening approved plans and specifications for the reconstruction of a city street.

Melissa Knutson of the firm CPS said that the project includes sidewalks that have been done in other parts of Grand Forks.

“The streetscaping that’s involved downtown will include decretive sidewalk that does match into the efforts that were done on Demers Avenue, North 3rd, North 4th, and continue that look,” Knutson explained to the committee. “This project does run on the 4th Street corridor from 1st Avenue North to 2nd Avenue North. In general it is really an extension of the ongoing beatification and feature efforts.”

Knutson said new lighting will also be installed.

“The beautiful pillars, light pillars that have been constructed on those adjacent projects will be carried through as part of a separate initiative, but the bases for them will be constructed as part of this project,” Knutson said.

The reconstruction will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

“We forget about things like making life easier for those who need ADA accommodations. The corridor has been redesigned in order to be more functionally accessible to meet ADA accessibility guidelines throughout that corridor,” Knutson said.

Bids are scheduled to be put out in February 2025 with a construction engineering agreement to be approved in the spring of next year.
