How the City of Grand Forks Applies for Federal Projects That Come With Funding Explained

(KNOX) -Once approved by Grand Forks City Council, federal applications for projects that get funding go to the Grand Forks-East Grand Forks Metropolitan Planning Organization just for a review and then are submitted to the state.

Assistant Grand Forks City Engineer Dave Kuharenko provided information to the Committee of the Whole on the federal application process.

“They end up reviewing our applications for completeness, and then they submit to the DOT, so they typically don’t make any changes,” Kuharenko told the committee.

The committee was offered data on federal programs with funding available to the city.

“The big ones that you’re going to be looking at for projects that are coming forward for applications are going to be associated with the regional roads program,” Kuharenko said.

Annual program submittals will come to future Committee and City Council meetings for review and approval to submit and this information will be provided as background for when those items come for discussion.

“You’re going to be seeing staff reports coming forward in the upcoming weeks regarding the draft applications, at which point in time that we will be looking for input from the Committee of the Whole as to the projects we are presenting,” Kuharenko said.
