FCC Chair Brendan Carr stops for roundtable discussions in Grand Forks, Fargo

(KVRR) – It was a busy November 2nd in North Dakota for FCC chair Brendan Carr.

He began the day in Grand Forks, discussing Unmanned Aircraft Systems with those involved in the city’s robust aviation industry, then travelled down to Fargo to participate in a roundtable with media broadcasters at the Avalon Events Center.

Carr said that though those topics may seem rather disparate, it was important to address both – and the insight he gathered from both events should prove invaluable.

“You never know exactly what you’ll hear, exactly what you’ll learn, but you always pick something up when you get outside of the Beltway and meet the people that are dealing with our policies,” said Carr.

Carr was accompanied by U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer, who helped facilitate some of that roundtable discussion, and talked about the general need for the federal government to support local news amidst modern-day challenges such as the prevalence of social media.

Cramer spoke positively about that relationship with Washington and Carr echoed that sentiment, saying the health of local news is high on his agency’s priority list.

“It’s incumbent on those of us back in D.C. that the regulatory structure allows local broadcasters to succeed,” he said.

Carr and Cramer followed up their media roundtable with a trip to the Badland Batteries facility in Fargo.

Badland Batteries manufactures battery cells to be used in drones and other unmanned aircraft systems.
