Minnesota Department of Health Says The State Has Highest Measles Cases Since 1990

(KNOX) – The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting that the state is dealing with its highest total of measles cases in one single year since 1990.

At least 80 people have the disease this year, where 57 of the cases are in Todd County in central Minnesota.

All but two Minnesotans who have measles have not received two doses for the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine. 71 percent of the measles cases involve children under 18 years old.

The Department of Health is encouraging the public to see if they and their families have been vaccinated.

Mayo Clinic says that symptoms for measles include a runny nose, red and watery eyes, dry cough, fever and rash. Even though a majority of people who have measles end up recovering, some can either die or deal with complications for the rest of their lives.
