(KNOX) – The University of North Dakota has announced a new partnership with the Joint Interagency Task Force 401’s Integrated Portfolio Division that will involve counter drone technology. The Joint Interagency Task Force 401’s Integrated Portfolio Division is a part of the U.S. Department of War.

The partnership was announced and celebrated at the UAS Summit and Expo on Wednesday, where UND President Andrew Armacost signed a memorandum of understanding with Colonel Jason Idleman.

UND will assess counter drone technology on behalf of the Department of War agency. This agency coordinates counter drone defense development with support from the Northern Plains UAS Test Site.

U.S. Senator John Hoeven was at the Summit Wednesday and he says that UND is the first and only university in the country that will be a “clearinghouse” for the task force. UND will also make recommendations on which technologies should be sought after from different companies and products.
