(KNOX) – There continues to be a lot of discussion about e bikes after the Grand Forks City Council voted to approve considering clarifying e bikes rules within the city. The Council made their decision at Monday’s city council meeting after hearing complaints and safety concerns from the public. There are considered to be three different classes of e bikes. Carma Hanson is the executive director of Safe Kids Grand Forks, and she explains what those classes are. She tells KNOX’s Aaron McWilliams.

There have been safety concerns about how minors have been riding across the city on these bikes into oncoming traffic. Hanson also says that she witnessed an incident where two girls were on a scooter that should be for one person.

Tina Sanders is a Specialist with Safe Kids. With so much uncertainty over the rules, she would like to see clarity from the city on what is and what isn’t legal. She tells KNOX’s Aaron McWilliams.

Grand Forks Police Chief Jason Freedman says that enforcing e bikes ordinances are challenging, and he has suggested that groups like Safe Kids and Grand Forks Public Health help the City address this issue.
