(KNOX) – The Grand Forks City Council approved its preliminary draft for its 2027 budget last Tuesday. The budget will total $249.1 million, and it will include a 5.05 percent salary plan increase, 15 percent increases in health insurance costs and mill levies that will be at 91.84.
Community Service Grant funds will not be in the 2027 budget, but Mayor Brandon Bochenski says they could be added in later on.
These funds have been given to local nonprofits that use them for providing services like emergency shelters. The city provided $159,135 in these funds in the 2026 budget.
With the first draft of the budget being approved, more funding can’t be added to the budget right now, but current funds could be reallocated.
Some council members suggested possibly reallocating funds from the beautification budget. That would remove two positions from other city departments or part of the funds that would be moved over to the Job Development Authority would be used for this purpose instead.
The council voted unanimously to approve the budget as presented.
