(Valley News Live) – The International Peace Garden will host a joint United States and Canadian memorial ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. today at the garden’s 9/11 Memorial Site. Garden entry fees will be waived for all visitors until noon.
The memorial site, which was established in 2002 through a joint effort by the garden’s board, the governments of North Dakota and Manitoba, and bilateral Rotary clubs, features 10 steel girder remnants salvaged from the collapsed World Trade Center towers.
The memorial event will bring together first responders and representatives from both nations, highlighting the enduring alliance between the U.S. and Canada. Honor guards participating in the ceremony include representatives from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Border Patrol, the Canada Border Services Agency, North Dakota Parks and Recreation, and the United Firefighters of Winnipeg.
In addition, the Manitoba Emergency Services College from Brandon, Manitoba, will display an aerial firetruck at the site.
David Pankratz, a member of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, will serve as the event’s emcee. Jason Shaw, deputy fire chief for the City of Winnipeg, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
The Bottineau High School Choir from North Dakota will perform the American and Canadian national anthems.
