(KNOX) –Both North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have directed that all U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, September 1st. This is to honor the memory of country music icon Dolly Parton.

Both Governors are encouraging their residents to lower their flags at their home and at businesses. Minnesota flags have been ordered to be at half-staff at all state buildings.

The directives are a little different in how long they will last. North Dakota’s order will run through sunset next Tuesday, while Minnesota’s ends at sunrise the same day.

Both orders come after President Donald Trump ordered all flags across the county be lowered in honor of Parton. She died on Tuesday at 80 years old.
