(Valley News Live) — A Valley City woman has been charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses after a search of her residence turned up a stolen firearm and methamphetamine, according to court documents.

Dawn Marie Andracki, 59, was arrested Aug. 16 at her residence at 245 10th Ave. NW in Valley City. According to a declaration of probable cause filed by Valley City Police Officer Zachary Gruba, Andracki was detained after officers executed a search warrant at the residence.

How the investigation began

According to the probable cause declaration, Valley City Police Officers Zachary Gruba and Anthony Erickson met with Janie Fisher at her residence on Aug. 16. Fisher told officers she wished to confess to being an accomplice to breaking into vehicles and said she witnessed Andracki break into a Jeep and steal $4,000 in cash along with a firearm.

Fisher told officers the theft occurred on the evening of Aug. 7 at the EconoLodge. She described the firearm as a revolver in a holster, similar to gold or tan in color, and said the cash consisted of $20 and $50 bills in zip-lock bags. Fisher said Andracki was actively trying to sell the gun and was keeping it in the basement of her residence.

According to the declaration, a search of North Dakota court records showed Andracki has prior convictions for drug possession, drug paraphernalia possession, unlawful entry into a vehicle, theft of property, and felon in possession of a firearm.

The declaration also references a Valley City Police Department case report stating that officers responding Aug. 8 took a report of a stolen firearm and cash. According to that report, a Jeep was forcibly entered and a .22 Magnum revolver wrapped in a brown bag was stolen, along with $4,300 in cash in two separate zip-lock bags, mostly in $50 and $20 bills. The report stated the revolver was not listed as stolen because the serial number was unknown at the time.

The search

Officers obtained and executed a search warrant for Andracki’s residence on Aug. 16. According to the declaration, Andracki was outside the residence when officers arrived and was detained after being read her Miranda warning.

During the search, officers said they located $2,860 in Andracki’s pockets. Her wallet contained her North Dakota driver’s license along with two small plastic baggies containing a crystal-like powder that Andracki said was methamphetamine.

Andracki told officers there was a handgun hidden inside a chair in her living room. She also signed a consent form allowing officers to search her vehicle, where they found drug paraphernalia and personal identifying documents that did not belong to her. According to the declaration, the firearm was in a light brown leather holster and was identified as a Heritage Rough Rider .22 Magnum revolver. Officers said they contacted the firearm’s owner on Aug. 16, who was able to positively identify it.

Charges

Andracki was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of methamphetamine (second or subsequent offense), possession of drug paraphernalia (second or subsequent offense), and possession of stolen property.
