(KNOX) – A University of North Dakota project using artificial intelligence models in battery management systems is being supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Genesis Mission. There is a group of projects that the DOE is supporting across the county for the Genesis Mission, and UND will be the only North Dakota institution that will participate.
A press release from the university says the Genesis Mission’s goal is to build an integrated science discovery platform through government, industry, academia and philanthropy. The press release also says that the platform will use AI, supercomputing, advanced scientific instruments and quantum systems in order to develop and build upon breakthroughs in energy, scientific discovery and national security. Jielun Zhang is an assistant professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science within the College of Engineering and Mines. He will lead the project.
UND President Andrew Armacost has said in the past that his goal is to make UND “North Dakota’s AI University.”
