(KNOX) -The installation project for Bluepeak’s fiber broadband network in East Grand Forks continues to make progress.
City Engineer Steve Emery says that the installation process for Distribution Areas 5 and 6 is finished, and that construction is now going on in DA 4. DA 5 includes areas between U.S. Highway 2 and 10th Street Northeast, as well as the downtown area west of Central Avenue Northwest. DA 6 is located east of Central Avenue Northwest, as well as north of Business Highway 2 and south of 10th Street Northeast.
Conduit installation is currently happening in DA 4 and it is 75 percent completed. DA4 covers the area north of Highway 2 that goes up to Northland Community and Technical College, which is between west of Central Avenue Northwest and east of Fifth Avenue Northeast.
Construction for DA 3 will start after DA 4 is finished. DA 3 includes the neighborhood north of downtown East Grand Forks up to the area around 22nd Street Northwest. It is mostly between Eighth Avenue Northwest and Central Avenue Northwest. Construction for DA 3 is supposed to start next week.
There are five more areas on the north and south ends of town that are still waiting for installation. Emery says installation in the south part of East Grand Forks will probably happen during next year’s construction season.
Meanwhile, the city council also approved a special event application for the Sacred Heart Parish Block Party that will happen on August 5th from 3pm until 9pm. They also authorized a partial closure of the street in front of Sacred Heart.
A special event application for the Nick Minske Memorial Run on Saturday, August 15 was tabled. The event would shut down half of a block on Fourth Street Northwest near Up North Pizza. Council member Dale Helms said he was concerned about having part of the street closed from 5pm until 10pm, which is when the event would happen that day.
