
(Learfield) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and the state’s Executive Council met Wednesday for a briefing on the northern Minnesota wildfires.
The council voted to extend the peacetime emergency declared in an Executive Order that authorizes continued state assistance and support for 30 days. Extension of the executive order authorizes the Minnesota National Guard to provide personnel, equipment, and resources to assist with wildfire suppression and emergency response efforts for an additional 30 days.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says there are 17 active wildfires burning in Northern Minnesota.
