(KNOX) – The demolition of the former Valley Middle School and the construction for new athletic fields that will also be on school grounds is still scheduled to be ready for the fall when students return for school.
The district invested $53 million that came from a $79 million bond referendum passed by voters in May 2023. The referendum was designed to build the new school and it passed with 65 percent of support.
Construction on the new school began in April 2024. The new building will feature more natural light, updated air conditioning systems and larger classrooms compared to the old building.
The last and current phase of the Valley Middle School project is the construction of new football, soccer field and baseball field. There will also be a new parking lot.
Construction is expected to wrap up before students return for the upcoming school. Although, they most likely won’t be able to use the sports fields until the spring or next fall.
