Grand Forks County Hosting Open House at Air Force Base

By Alex Carmenaty Jul 13, 2026 | 8:20 AM

(KNOX) – Grand Forks County will have an open house this Wednesday to discuss its Compatible Use Study for land near the Grand Forks Air Force Base. This is all a part of a process to create a military impact zone around the base.

This is the first event where the public will be able to meet with members of the project team ever since the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation was awarded a $600,000 federal grant last August.

The study came after Senate Bill 2398 passed the North Dakota Legislature last year. This allows the creation of military impact zones near military installations that are in North Dakota.

A local leader forum will be held before the open house starts. It will include business owners, city and county officials, and The Chamber of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.

The open house will happen on Wednesday night at The HIVE at 5:30 pm. An informational presentation will follow the public input session, and more information can be found on the Grand Forks County website.
