(KNOX) –The Kegs Drive-In will have new ownership starting next Tuesday, July 14. The local restaurant has been in Grand Forks since 1935 and it is well known for its classic American style menu that features hamburgers, french fries, onion rings and milkshakes.
Rick Hanson has co-owned the restaurant with his siblings Becky and Laura since 2002. The restaurant was put up for sale in 2022 after some renovations, and the Hanson’s have sold it to two women from Bagley, Minnesota.
The new owners could be expanding the business hours. The restaurant has limited hours and is only open during the summer, since the Hanson siblings own another restaurant, Northside Cafe. Tentative plans will include night hours, as well as being open for six days a week instead of five.
The restaurant was originally known as The Barrel because of its barrel-shaped design founded by William Harry Muzzy. It moved to 901 North 5th Street in 1946 and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
