(KNOX) –The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is warning rural residents about a black bear that was spotted in two areas.
The bear has been seen in both Harwood and Amenia. Authorities do not know if it is the same animal, but residents are urged to be aware of their surroundings, especially during the summer months when children are outside more often.
Parents are encouraged to talk with their children about what to do if they see a bear. Children should tell an adult immediately and stay away from the animal.
The sheriff’s office is also reminding residents to keep garbage cans closed and stored inside a building or other enclosed structure to avoid attracting wildlife.
Anyone who sees the bear is being instructed to call 911 right away.
