(KNOX) – A former member of a drug trafficking group in the Red River Valley and Devils Lake areas has received a lengthy prison term from a slough of federal charges.
Kyle Kahalehili Maez-Schaack, 33, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Monday in a federal kidnapping case that included charges of drug trafficking conspiracy, brandishing a firearm during a kidnapping and firearm possession by a felon, according to a new release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Maez-Schaack was charged with kidnapping a male victim at gunpoint in Fargo, then taking him to Moorhead, according to court documents. The defendant forced the victim to call family and friends, asking for funds to pay a drug debt.
The victim escaped escaped by fleeing after being left unattended.
