Point Bridge Work Delayed Until Next Year

(KNOX) – Upgrades to the Point Bridge between Grand Forks and East Grand Forks won’t happen this year as planned.

East Grand Forks City Engineer Steve Emery told council members last night (Tuesday) that the wait time for new expansion joints is five to eight months out.  As a result the work won’t take place until 2027.  Emery says project bids are still expected to be opened next week.
The proposed work includes replacing the joints…repairing damaged concrete…painting…and a mill and overlay of the bridge deck.  Emery says the goal is to complete the $2.26 million dollar project between mid-May and August 15th of next year.
The Point Bridge was originally built in 1967.  The last major rehab of the river crossing was in 2006.  Emery says the city will likely make some temporary repairs to the East Grand Forks approach side this summer to improve the ride-ability of the road.
