Grand Forks County Commission Sets The Process For Getting a New Commissioner

(KNOX) – The Grand Forks County Commission is taking applications for a vacant seat on the board of commissioners. The Grand Forks County Commission outlined the process that will be used to fill the opening. The seat became open with the untimely death of Commissioner Cynthia Pic.

Information is due by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 2, and must be submitted to County Administrator Tom Ford. The person who is appointed will serve until the winner of the general election is seated.

Materials that must submitted to Grand Forks County include;

  • A statement indicating their interest in being considered for appointment.
  • A brief explanation of why they are interested in service as a member of the County Commission.
  • A description of amount of time they are able to dedicate to commission responsibilities.
  • A resume outlining relevant experience and qualifications.

Materials should be sent to Grand Forks County (Attention: Tom Ford) Box 5726, Grand Forks, N.D., 58206-5726. Or, the materials can be sent via email to thomas.ford@gfcounty.org and colleen.morstad@gfcounty.org.

Any individual that wishes to seek election for the unexpired term must submit candidacy forms and a petition signed by at least 300 qualified electors to the county auditor by 4 p.m. on April 6, 2026. Petitions must clearly indicate that they are for the unexpired term. The top two vote getters in the primary election will advance to the November 2026 general election.
