(Minnesota Reformer) – Minnesota Democrats in the first few days of the 2026 legislative session have proposed a slew of bills to hold federal agents accountable for constitutional abuses and limit their conduct.

The Trump administration sent 3,000 immigration enforcement agents here beginning late last year, which ignited massive resistance and resulted in the killings of two American citizens.

Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, DFL-St. Paul, said lawmakers must follow the lead of ordinary Minnesotans, who have been documenting the feds and providing aid to neighbors, by enacting laws to ensure this kind of immigration enforcement chaos never happens again. “We’re not just fighting for ourselves here, but really for the freedom we enjoy in the Constitution,” she said.

Among the bills Democratic-Farmer-Labor legislators are proposing is the Minnesota Constitutional Remedies Act, which would allow Minnesotans to sue federal agents in state court if their constitutional rights are violated.
