(By Adam Kurtz. UND Today) – UND Aerospace students are better able to explore another career path as the University can now offer courses leading to certification as an aircraft dispatcher.

Aircraft Dispatcher Certification Courses must be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. The work to create the course and meet the FAA’s requirements has taken years, and approval means UND joins the ranks of only 52 other certified institutions nationwide.

The process culminated over the summer when FAA inspectors from Minneapolis and Seattle conducted a facility inspection on the UND campus, then issued a formal letter of approval.

Brett Venhuizen, chair of the Department of Aviation, offered his thanks to the faculty member who helped bring about FAA approval for the courses, and noted that the approval had been a goal of the department for years.

“We are very excited to be able to offer an FAA dispatch program,” Venhuizen said. “This is something that the department has wanted to do for more than 20 years, and we are very thankful to Assistant Professor Samantha Ross and the FAA for making it happen.
