(KNOX) – The City of Grand Forks has a new fire chief. Deputy Fire Chuck Marcott was approved by city council.

“This is just another one of those list of phenomenal opportunities that the city has afforded me that I plan to make good on. So I appreciate the time, I appreciate the opportunity to lead and be part of the team,” Marcott told council.

“Public safety is of utmost importance in Grand Forks, as such we had a great group of candidates from this nationwide search.” Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski said.  “I am happy to announce Mr. Marcott rose to the top of the search and has been selected as our next chief.  Thank you to Deputy Chief Brian Geatz for his service in the interim.”

Marcott replaces Gary Lorenz who became the fire chief in Fargo. Marcott is taking over as chief of the Grand Forks Fire Department immediately.
