Grand Forks City Council Will get Memorandum of Understanding for Potato Processing Plant

(KNOX) – On Tuesday, Grand Forks City Council will receive the memorandum of understanding that Belgium-based Agristo would like to locate a potato processing plant in Grand Forks.

Grand Forks City Attorney Dan Gaustad says the memorandum comes first then comes a development agreement.

“Preliminary and working framework to begin and pursue the good faith negations between the City and Agristo to then to enter into a development agreement that would be mutually agreeable for both sides,” Gaustad says.

Gaustad says the memorandum is the first step the process.

“It talks about the various items that the development agreement, that the parties anticipate,” Gaustad says.

Agristo has reached out to the City of Grand Forks that they would like their first North American operation be based in Grand Forks. There are certain conditions that Agristo is requiring be met before committing to Grand Forks.

The memorandum of understanding starts the course of events for the company to open the potato processing facility in Grand Forks. The groundbreaking is slated for some time this year with the plant to start operations in 2028.

Agristo is expected to create 300 to 350 direct jobs, stimulate indirect investments in agriculture, supply chains, and boost local and regional economies.
