(KNOX) – Grand Forks City Council recently received an update on the progress on the planned Altru Sports Complex.
Adam Davidson of JLG Architects says they will have some firm amounts on cost next year.
“About 30 percent of that will be hard numbers, actual numbers about what those costs are. We will review that with the council to make sure we are on track,” Davidson told council.
He says that the team working on the proposed facility is in the design stage.
“Design and development. We’re about seven weeks into, in an almost 19-week duration of design and development. This is the second phase of design, where we do a lot more refinement. We really develop all the details necessary to do a complete cost estimate,” Davidson says.
In January 2024, the City of Grand Forks hired the design team of JLG Architects and Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture (JLG + BRS) for final programming and schematic design of the new facility. From the beginning of schematic design, user group input was a critical component to finalize the program for the facility. The JLG + BRS team was charged with working with the city, the Grand Forks Parks District, steering committee members, and indirect stakeholders to confirm the results of the feasibility study and build upon new local developments around local athletics.
The Altru Indoor Sports and Aquatics Center will be located on a 15-acre plot owned by the City of Grand Forks south of the Alerus Center site adjacent to Interstate 29 and South 42nd Street. This location is a portion of an overall city planned district with Hugo’s BMX track and the proposed Grand Forks Children’s Museum.
JLG + BRS has worked with the City of Grand Forks and Bolton and Menk to assist in the master planning of the entire 25-acre site so the Altru Indoor Sports and Aquatics Center respected the BMX track’s existing footprint, provided enough space for the proposed Children’s Museum, and ensured that the facility and planned development would be cohesive.
