(KNOX) – Projects are progressing at Grand Forks Air Force Base and Grand Sky, but the Base Retention Committee heard Wednesday morning that federal defense budgets may be shrinking.
Civic leader Bruce Gjovig says inflation is putting severe pressure on defense appropriations.
Base consultant Dave Deptula says the preliminary defense budget for Fiscal Year 2026 is in for a battle.
Consultant George Schlossberg says the Air Force is retiring 292 aircraft… including F-15 and F-16 fighter jets… but only buying 56.
On attracting more air service to Grand Forks International Airport, Dana Sande said the city and base need to show some sort of open commitment from the local business community.
The Base Retention Committee will meet again in August.
