The deadline has passed for North Dakota homeowners who wanted to take advantage of the Primary Residence Credit.
The program was established by the 2023 legislature and offered up to a $500 credit against 2024 property tax obligations.
The North Dakota Tax Department says a total of 137,204 homeowners applied prior to the March 31st deadline – including 11,677 property owners in Grand Forks County.
House Bill 1158 set aside $103,225,000 to fund the credit.
Lawmakers also made adjustments to the Homestead Property Tax Credit including a boost in the income limits to $70,000 dollars. As a result of the move Grand Forks officials say they have seen a 50% increase in applications this year. As many as 1,000 homeowners in the city are seeking the credit.
The legislature set aside $43,500,000 dollars to support the program.
