GF: Epitome…The Beacon & Recreation Center

By Doug Barrett Dec 12, 2023 | 8:37 AM

The Grand Forks council received updates on a pair of large scale projects last night – The Beacon and Epitome Energy.
The downtown Beacon includes three large buildings that will surround a public plaza. The site includes rental units and a proposed hotel.  Some details have changed since the original TIF agreement was approved.

The council also gave preliminary approval to a development agreement with Epitome Energy for the $420 million dollar soybean crushing plant. City Attorney Dan Gaustad says the agreement spells out the responsibilities of both sides…

Epitome CEO Dennis Egan says soil borings should begin later this month…four bids have been received for stormwater work…and actual construction will begin in 2024.

Epitome is eyeing 55 acres of land north of the city. The plant will process up to 42 million bushels of soybeans per year.

The Grand Forks council reviewed the latest timeline for construction of a multi-sports complex and aquatics facility near the Alerus Center last night (Monday).
The plan includes the purchase of over six acres of land at a cost of over $2.1 million dollars…acceptance of a letter of intent on the naming rights…and an operations agreement with the Park District. Funding for the $100 million dollar build would come from the voter approved extension of a ¾ percent sales tax.
A grand opening is planned for 2027.
