The Grand Forks Council – meeting as the Board of Equalization – certified the 2023 tax assessment for the city last night (Monday). The market value of 18,527 properties were analyzed for the report. The total True and Full Value of property tops $5.79 billion dollars. A closer look at the numbers suggest the value of agricultural land in the city increased over 34%….commercial land and buildings climbed 7.87%….and residential land and buildings increased 9.59%. The assessments will be forwarded to the county assessor.

Bids will be opened May 12th on the 32nd Street rehabilitation project in Grand Forks. The city council approved a cost participation agreement with the North Dakota DOT last night for revamping the stretch between I-29 and South Washington this summer.
The $2.28 million dollar project includes concrete panel replacement…asphalt mill and overlay…and ADA ramps. The local share of the maintenance bill is $238,962 dollars.
The work was originally scheduled to take place in 2025.

The Grand Forks Council meeting as the JDA will allow Forum Communications to terminate its lease in the HIVE building early.
The lease with the city runs through April (2024). The Grand Forks Herald wants to give a 60 day notice.
Last month the JDA rejected the early-out clause. According to staff there are other tenants waiting to get into the building with the goal of securing longer term leases.
The space in question totals 4,252 square feet. The JDA approved the move without dissent.
