Grand Forks police have identified the male victim found deceased near the Grand Forks Airport on Saturday. 30-year old Tyler Smith of Selkirk (MB) was found in a field on the east side of the property just off Airport Road.
The discovery was made the day after police came in contact with a man passed out behind the wheel of a pick-up. As the officer approached the vehicle the driver took off at a high rate of speed.
Later in the afternoon UND police came upon the suspect vehicle stuck in the snow by the UND James Ray Hanger – unoccupied. That evening Smith was reported missing by family members.
Law enforcement and GFK Fire personnel launched a search for the missing man Saturday morning and found Smith several hours later.
The death remains under investigation.
