The North Dakota House overwhelmingly approved a bill that would make it a crime to perform drag shows and cabaret performances in the presence of children or in public places. The House voted 79-13 Thursday to send the bill to the state Senate. A person who violates the law would be charged with a misdemeanor.

A House committee has given a “do not pass” recommendation to a bill designed to make sure women would become chairs of House committees.  The measure requires the House majority leader to appoint two female members from the party as chairmen of standing committees.  The vote was 8-5 against.

North Dakota lost 20% of its small-town grocery stores in a five year span before the pandemic and the challenges to keep them open have only mounted.  A bill before the state legislature to expand a co-operative purchasing project statewide. Senate Bill 2273 provides $2 million to help with the program.

After more than seven hours of debate the Minnesota House passed a carbon-free bill.  It would require utilities doing business in the state to use entirely carbon-free sources for electricity production by 2040 Minnesota would join 21 other states that have established a 100% clean energy standard or goal..
