A 16-year-old suspect from Bismarck connected to a murder at a Bismarck motel early Friday morning is in custody after being apprehended in Warren (MN).
Bismarck Police said their investigation led detectives to Warren, and the teen was arrested by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department shortly after 7 a.m. in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Maurice Thunder Shield of McLaughlin, South Dakota.
Officers responded to a Motel 6 around 12:40 a.m. on a report of an individual shot in the chest.
They arrived to find Thunder Shield unresponsive from an apparent gunshot wound and witnesses performing CPR. Thunder Shield was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses, and other evidence led officers and detectives to believe that the 16-year-old shot Thunder Shield and left the scene.
The teen is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility in Minnesota. There will be an extradition process to get the individual back to Burleigh County.
