GFPH: COVID-19, flu shot Clinic Thursday at Grand Cities Mall

Grand Forks Public Health (GFPH) will offer both COVID-19 and influenza vaccines this coming Thursday, January 13^th. The clinic will be held at the Grand Cities Mall COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic, 1826 S Washington, Suite 7, between Play It Again Sports and Ace Hardware from 12:30 – 6:00 p.m. and will be a one-day-only event.

“The community has been asking if it is safe and effective to get influenza and COVID-19 vaccine at the same visit, and the answer is yes,” said Immunization Program Coordinator, Haley Bruhn. “With the increase in symptomatic respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19 and influenza cases, we see having this opportunity to get vaccinated against both at the same time beneficial to everyone. We are excited for the January 13^th event and hope the community takes advantage of this opportunity. It is important to reduce the burden of severe illnesses and hospitalizations in our community. If you haven’t gotten vaccinated yet, getting them now is the best way to be protected in the future. It is not too late as influenza often doesn’t peak until February or March. Both vaccines take a few weeks to build up an immune response and provide the most protection.”

Flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older and those age 5 years and older may be vaccinated against COVID-19. It is safe and effective to receive influenza and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time. For COVID-19 vaccine, no insurance is necessary, and it is free of charge. For influenza vaccine, insurance will be billed. Insurances accepted include Medicare Part B, ND Medicaid, Sanford, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. The out-of-pocket cost is $55. Flu vaccine will also be available for those who are uninsured or underinsured at no-cost.
