2022 starts out with record cold temps

By Doug Barrett Jan 1, 2022 | 9:27 AM

The Grand Forks Airport set a record low on New Years Eve (December 31st) and on New Years Day (January 1st). According to the NWS it dropped to -33F prior to midnight on the 31st and bottomed out at -37F prior to 6 am on the 1st.

A WIND CHILL Advisory is in effect for the entire region until 10:00 a.m. Sunday.

Weather experts predicted a La Niña winter and so far they have been right.  A La Niña winter typically means colder and more frequent snow events for North Dakota and Minnesota.

KNOX Meteorologist Mark Ewens says La Niña typically peaks in February and March but often lingers into the spring.  Ewens says it can also result in milder summers.
