Fifteen photographers have been named winners of the annual North Dakota Governor’s Photo Contest.

The awards were given out during a ceremony at the North Dakota Heritage Center.

Launched in 2004, the Governor’s Photo Contest encourages North Dakota amateur photographers to submit photos that capture the unique things to see and do in North Dakota.

Governor Doug Burgum says “We are deeply grateful for these talented photographers who captured the spirit of what makes North Dakota a great place to visit, live, work and raise a family.”

Awards were given in the categories of Recreation…Badlands Scenery…Beyond the Badlands Scenery…Wildlife…and Best In Show.

Named “Road Trips” was a photo called The Vast Lane by Wendy Wood of Grand Forks.  The picture reveals a full rainbow in the Red River Valley.

The photos will be on display at the Heritage Center through mid-November. They will be displayed later at the Cando Arts Center, the James Memorial Arts Center in Williston, and the Arts Center in Jamestown.

Two guest judges participated this year, photographer Tim Lamey representing the North Dakota Council on the Arts, and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer David Hume Kennerly representing the Governor’s Office.
