By Pat Sweeney Sep 24, 2021 | 5:25 PM

A recent concert by country singer Luke Combs has broken the record for ticket sales at the Alerus Center.

The Sept. 17 event sold 21,752 tickets, breaking the previous mark of 19,500 at a George Strait concert in 2013.

Officials say the Combs concert also set new venue records for attendance and alcohol sales.

The Alerus Center has another busy weekend ahead – an Eric Church concert on October 1st, followed by a UND – NDSU football game on October 2nd.

Alerus Center release:

North Carolina country star Luke Combs played to a packed house at Alerus Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota earlier this month. Combs, whose debut single “Hurricane” released just four years ago, set a new ticket sales record at the 22,000 capacity venue, shattering the previous record held by country superstar George Strait. The new record for tickets sold at Alerus Center is 21,752, an astonishing number for a venue located in a town with a population of less than 60,000.

Alerus Center has hosted several big names over its twenty-year history including the aforementioned George Strait as well as stars like Cher, Britney Spears, Metallica, and KISS. Despite the heavyweight competition, Combs broke the record within thirty days of tickets going on sale to the public. In addition to breaking the ticket sales record, Combs also set new venue records for attendance and alcohol sales. Metallica held the previous record for alcohol sales and still holds the record for merchandise sales- they are fourth overall in attendance behind Cher, George Strait, and Luke Combs.

“We couldn’t be more thankful to work with AEG Presents and the Luke Combs tour on this record-setting event. It was truly a night to remember,” said Alerus Center General Manager Anna Rosburg. “Our mission is to provide premier entertainment and events that stimulate economic impact and improve quality of life for Grand Forks area citizens- this event made a significant impact to our community on both fronts. In working with Visit Greater Grand Forks and Destinations International data, it was determined that over ninety percent of Luke Combs attendees were from outside of the city and contributed over $1,500,000 in direct spend to the local economy- over 2,500,000 in economic impact figures. This was truly a win for Alerus Center and the region and we are thrilled with the results.”

Luke Combs now heads west, his tour making stops in Oregon, California, and New Mexico over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, Alerus Center looks ahead to a much anticipated Eric Church concert on October 1st, immediately followed by a sold out UND vs. NDSU football game on October 2nd.
