Abdullahi faces murder charge, shooting victim identified (Update)

Update 3:00 PM:

Bond has been set at $500,000 cash or surety for a Grand Forks man accused in the shooting death of a woman on Sunday.

Twenty-six-year-old Ahmed Mohamed Abdullahi of Grand Forks made his first court appearance today (Mon).

He originally faced a manslaughter charge, but that was amended today (Mon) to Class AA felony murder.

Meanwhile, police identified the victim as 28-year-old Megan Lea Gustafson.

Police say the incident happened after an apparent argument inside a home on the 1300 block of 8^th Avenue North.

Around 1:30 AM, officers responding to a call of a suspicious person heard a gunshot inside the home.

Police say a woman came out of the home and fell to the ground. She was pronounced dead at Altru hospital.

Abdullahi is also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and theft-possession of a firearm. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Authorities are investigating the relationship between Abdullahi and Gustafson. They believe the two knew each other.

Abdullahi’s preliminary hearing is scheduled Oct. 20^th.
