While the timeline for getting all adults in North Dakota vaccinated has been moved up the Dean of the UND Medical School says it’s still important to remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19.
Dr. Joshua Wynne says there has been a slight uptake in positive cases recently. Wynne says another concern is the number of variants starting to show up – although not all mutations are dangerous.
Wynne says he’s encouraged by the quick pace of vaccinations but it also means some people in higher priority groups aren’t getting shots. “The one caution I would say is the reason we are ahead of schedule is because of vaccine hesitancy. If all 80 year old residents were vaccinated that would mean less vaccine for the rest of us.”
Wynne told a meeting of the State Board of Higher Education (Thursday) that he still believes that by the fall semester most campus activities will return to a “more normal” operating routine.
