EGF juggles road projects and federal funding

East Grand Forks leaders have two road projects on the drawing board with enough federal funding for one.  The council reviewed preliminary plans last night (Tuesday) for the reconstruction of 10^th Street Northeast from 11^th Avenue to 15^th.

The city has around $860,000 dollars in federal dollars on hand.  The funding is only doled out every three or four years.  Already penciled in on the transportation plan is a proposed roundabout and upgrades along Bygland Road.

Council member Clarence Vetter says there are a number of “hoops” to jump through when utilizing federal dollars and there may not be enough time for the MPO to change course.

Mayor Steve Gander says it’s good to have all options on the table.

The council hopes to look at revised cost estimates for both projects before mapping a course of action.

In other council notes:  Engineers have set an April 6^th date to review bids on street improvements on DeMers Avenue.  Those upgrade include removal of the stamped concrete crosswalks and a mill and overlay adjacent to the Sorlie Bridge.
