A pair of large development projects will be allowed to seek tax incentives from Grand Forks following action by the council last night. The Beacon would be a $50 million dollar mixed use development at the site of the former Townhouse Hotel. It includes a three separate buildings that will surround a public plaza. City Administrator Todd Feland called the plan a game-changer for the downtown. Feland says it fits well with downtown development plans for driving more activities and concerts.
The proposed Memorial Village redevelopment would consist of a five story building on the site of the Old M emorial Stadium. The first floor would serve as the new home of UND Athletics. The upper floors would become market rent apartments. The price-tag of the project is estimated at $25 million dollars.
Feland says both projects will be fully vetted.
The council invited both projects to submit tax incentive applications without dissent.
