(KNOX) – North Dakota airports had their busiest May on record as airline passenger boarding numbers reached 103,068 passengers for the month. The previous record for the month of May was set during the 2014 oil boom with 100,389 passengers.
The same could not be said for Grand Forks International Airport. The month of May at GFK saw 434 fewer passengers board than in May 2023.
Year-to-date numbers at GFK are down 1,015 boardings… according to the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission.
In an e-mail…Ryan Riesinger, executive director of the Grand Forks Regional Airport Authority… told KNOX that the U.S. Department of Transportation announced earlier this week that they will be taking applications for the Small Community Air Service Development Program. We are planning to submit an application for an additional air carrier and route before the July 25th deadline.
Riesinger says communication with Delta Airlines is ongoing and we are hopeful we will see a fourth daily flight added by the end of 2024.
The Bismarck Airport added a new flight with Allegiant Airlines to St. Pete/Clearwater International Airport Wednesday and Sunday.
