East Grand Forks may enlist the services of a Building Committee to help steer discussions about community amenities – including the city’s aging arenas. The eight to ten member group would work independently from a future fundraising task force. Park and Rec Director Reid Huttunen says the Building Committee would be charged with several goals and objectives. “Review the current recreational facilities that need improvement…how those facilities are used…how as a community we would like to see used in the future…and work through programming needs and budget.”
Those recommendations would come back to the council for review.
Huttunen says a potential target date for construction is the spring of 2023.

In other council notes….Mayor Steve Gander says he’s been in contact with area lawmakers to try and fix the funding formula used in calculating state L-G-A. Gander says the current method penalizes East Grand Forks in comparison to neighboring cities despite increased program funding.
