A conversation is underway on how best to develop a 15 acre site south of the Alerus Center. City Administrator Todd Feland briefed a recent meeting of the Events Center Commission on the numerous ideas that have been suggested for the property. He says the next step is a cost analysis to equip the site with necessary utilities.
Feland says it’s also important to coordinate development with other players in the community. “I know UND is doing some master planning…the Columbia Mall obviously is going to do something…the Grand Cities Mall is trying to do something and we have this Alerus Center land. I think before we jump to a final conclusion we should look around to see how we leverage these in our community so they land in the best place.”
The suggestions range from indoor turf for youth sports and a children’s museum to a BMX track. Other possibilities are on the table as well. The city council and events commission is expected to weigh in on the discussion later this year.
